– Saturday Prompt: Songs for a Bad Week

I certainly know what those are. I am certain I could find more on my iPod. Certainly every less than pleasant week is different, but this is the list for this one. No comment on what or who might be the cause of this particular week going as it has.

1. “Let Me Drown” – Soundgarden

Give up to greed, you don’t have to feed me
Give up to fate, you don’t have to need me
So let it go, let it go, won’t you let it
Drown me in you, drown me in you, drown me in you

Slip down the darkness to the mouth
Damn the water burn the wine
I’m going home for the very last time

2. “Cities In Dust” – Siouxie & the Banshees

Water was running; children were running
We found you hiding, we found you lying
Your city lies in dust
Ohh oh your city lies in dust, my friend

Hot and burning in your nostrils
Pouring down your gaping mouth
Your molten bodies blanket of cinders
Caught in the throes …….
Ohh oh your city lies in dust, my friend

3. “Losing My Religion” – by R.E.M.

Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I’ve said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

4. ‘Keep My Secret Well” by Xandria

Keep my secret well
Like my eyes keep these tears
It’s raindrops on my face
A thunderstorm has led me here

Keep my secret well
Like my lungs keep on breathing
Until I close my eyes
The last time it’s beneath me

Fot the case all is past and gone
I’ll keep my smile and carry on
Don’t ask for more

Keep my secret well
See how deep I fell
Keep my secret well
And I won’t ask you for more

Keep my secret well
Like my veins keep my blood
No wounds can be as deep
As the love that I had

  1. I’ve always been rather fond of Chumbawumba’s “Tub Thumping” and Semisonic’s “Closing Time”

    Closing Time:
    Closing time
Open all the doors and let you out into the world
    Closing time
Turn all of the lights on over every boy and every
    girl
    Closing time
One last call for alcohol so finish your whiskey or
    beer
    Closing time
You don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
    Take me home

    Closing time
Time for you to go out to the places you will be from
    Closing time
This room won’t be open till your brothers or your
    sisters come
So gather up your jackets, move it to the exits
I hope you have found a friend
    Closing time
Every new beginning comes from some other
    beginning’s end

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
    Take me home

    Closing time
Time for you to go out to the places you will be from

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
    Take me home

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
    Take me home

    Closing time
Every new beginning comes from some other
    beginning’s end

    Tub Thumping:

    We’ll be singing
    When we’re winning
    We’ll be singing

    I get knocked down
    But I get up again
You’re never going to keep me down

    Pissing the night away
    Pissing the night away

    He drinks a whisky drink
    He drinks a vodka drink
    He drinks a lager drink
    He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him
    Of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him
    Of the better times:

    ‘Oh Danny Boy
    Danny Boy
    Danny Boy…’

    I get knocked down
    But I get up again
You’re never going to keep me down

    Pissing the night away
    Pissing the night away

    He drinks a whisky drink
    He drinks a vodka drink
    He drinks a lager drink
    He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him
    Of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him
    Of the better times:

    ‘Don’t cry for me
    Next door neighbour…’

    I get knocked down
    But I get up again
You’re never going to keep me down

    We’ll be singing
    When we’re winning
    We’ll be singing
