EM Topic # 11 – Write about your “theme song” and why it speaks to you.

Music has been so important in my life. I learned to play the harp at a young age and with that I also learned to sing. There were always the traditional songs from my mother’s homeland of Scotland, then there were the Fae songs, too. Sometimes they tend to go into long epic pieces. Wherever I have gone, I have found that music opens doorways and speaks in a language that is universal.

I don’t usually listen to rock and roll, preferring rather classical or even traditional music, but this particular song really spoke to me because those of us who are Immortal in one way or another often find ourselves contemplating the impermanence of the people and places of things around us – and yet we remain. I suppose the meaning I ascribe to this song really was not what the artist had intended. I wonder if I wrote to them if they would be able to view it from my perspective. At any rate, this song reminds me so much of the conversations that I have had with friends, lovers, my consort, and even my own children.

World Outside
by the Devlins

Tell me your secret
What you desire
I will still be there for you
And tell me you need it
Tell me something you’re not
I will still be there for you

And say you believe it
All of your lies
Tell me you feel it
And don’t compromise, oh no
I will still be there for you

Your light in my dreams
Light up my skin
You’re so far away
You’re holding it in
I’m looking around
Watching it spin
Got my world outside
It’s changing
Something within

Tell me you’ll reach it
Some of the time
What you’re searching for
Cos the love that’s around you
Gets you down
Kick you to the floor

So tell me you see it
With your own eyes
Tell me the sky is falling now
In your world
I will still be there for you

Your light in my dreams
Light up my skin
Waiting so long
Time to begin
I’m looking around
Watching it spin
Got my world outside
It’s changing
Something within

So tell me the reasons
Show me the signs
Say you desire
Desire only now
In this world
It’s our world

Your light in my dreams
Light up my skin
You’re so far away
You’re holding it in
I’m looking around
Watching it spin
Got my world outside
It’s changing
Something within

It’s our world
Time moves on
And time moves on
In our world
