Write about something you lost.

Why? So that that the knowledge of such might be used against me? What loss would you like me to speak of? The loss of my mother? I was four and I am barely able to remember her face now. I was told by my Uncle Angus, that I resembled her greatly. Do you wish to hear about the loss of my virginity? It was part of a ritual, my Initiation. I’ve already spoken of that. The loss of my firstborn daughter? I gave her up to save both of our lives. These were not losses. Things like these are merely life’s challenges and inconveniences that test our mettle and shape us into who we are.

Perhaps the most incredible loss to me was the loss of my husband, Sebastien. He was more than my spouse. He started out as an enemy, evolved into a friend and later became the love of my life. His death marked a beginning for me. It was the beginning of a four hundred year long obsession to find a way to cheat death. There are those who have asked if my singular focus on this one man was a bit too devoted. While it is true that I lost my husband, my lover, and yes, he was the truest friend and ally I could have ever had, what they do not realize is that we were wed by the soul, he and I. From this rite, particularly for the Fae, there is no return. I would have waited lifetimes for him to reincarnate, but somehow, that was not enough. I could not, would not wait for what that entailed. I wanted my Sebastien. I wanted him as the arrogant, aristocratic, ruthless, one-eyed bastard that I had married and no other.

Without him I had lost my perspective and my temperance. More often times than not, I had lost my patience with the world at large and showed it no mercy until it at last gave up what it was that I wanted. In the end it did, but not before I had lost a good deal more in the process.

#202 The Game of Life

If life is a game, who do you think is winning?

I Am, of course.

I make no apologies for doing what I have done in my life to get the upper hand. Power is the game in life whereby you can win or lose. Is your life an endless fear of losing it? Pity.

Oh, yes. There are those that will dribble out of both sides of their face as about how life is ever-so-serious, how people are dying, tragedies are happening. I have a clue for those who like to wallow in those morose details.

That’s life. Deal with it.

No one is going to mollycoddle you or hold your hand through this game – or serious business if you like – of life. No one owes you happiness or a living simply because you exist. Mankind, Fae-kind, no kind has evolved past the very basic truth that life, death, even birth itself is a bloody, violent process. You will be getting your hands dirty. If you want to go through it all neat and pristine, then you’re going to have to step up your own personal grooming habits, because sooner or later you will, at some point, have to choose between who lives and who dies. And when that day comes I can guarantee you that when facing down that particular choice, the interests of self preservation will come rushing the fore. What will you do? Will you continue in the game, or will it simply be a case of ‘Game Over’ for you?

Yes…I thought so.

ROTM – Mandatory Mun Prompt: Mandatory for all Members!

Name of Muse: Frances Moira McKay / Fanny Fae / Faelyn
Fandom/Type of Muse: Original Character / Folklore / Mythology
Link to muse profile page: http://fannyfae.livejournal.com/profile
Mun name, nickname or handle: Christina, Xina, or niankhsekhmet
Best way to get a message to the mun: Write to fannyfae at gmail dot com
Do you use AIM or any other IM? AIM – Fanny Hackabout, ICQ 4699385 (if you use ICQ, all requests must be approved)
One hundred words about the muse that everyone should know:

Frances Moira McKay or Fanny Fae, born in 1444 Frances Moira McKay, of Clan McKay of Scotland, she is half-human and half Unseelie (Dark) Fae. She is the product of a devoted Priestess of the Fortunate Isle, and a Dark Sidhe prince, Gan Ceanach, which means “Love Talker”.

When she was a mere four years of age, Fanny’s mother died under mysterious circumstances and she was immediately raised by Morgienne, the Lady of the Fortunate Island as her own. Later it came to be revealed that Morgienne herself was complicit in the death of Fanny’s mother. In an act of blood vengeance, she killed her foster mother, usurped the throne and she assumed the role of High Lady of the Fortunate Isle.

Fanny is fascinated by all forms of Power and is an adept of it and often quotes its “laws” and nature. At times she is capable of the most incredible acts of abject cruelty and on the opposite side of the spectrum can sometimes be compassionate to a fault. Her most fatal flaw is an audacious arrogance that she rarely sees within herself but often drives her mun to distraction. She is quite loyal to those whom she deems as friends.

Available to roleplay? Yes, especially with those muses and situations that have an actual plot.

OOC Review of Elizabeth: The Golden Age

3.5 out of 5 Stars

I will start this review saying at the outset that I am a big fan of director Shakhar Kapur. Certainly, he is one of my top five favourite film directors. I would also say that I am a huge fan of the work of Geoffrey Rush and Cate Blanchett by far has the most incredibly spot-on portrayal of Elizabeth I on film. I will also say that I am an Elizabethan / Tudor history fiend, and I left the film rather unfulfilled. Kapur, with three times the budget he had for the last film, really has underscored that when a director is hungry, he really can stretch his abilities to make a low budget film far better and appear much larger than it truly was in real life. Other than some very ridiculous non-period costumes on Cate Blanchett and alot of CGI for the Spanish Armada, there really wasn’t alot to show for the money spent in making the film.

Warning! Spoilers Ahead for those who have not seen the film!
